Learn about the history of the Berlin Wall in Madrid
The Berlin Wall was more than a physical barrier dividing Germany in two. It represented two opposing visions of the world, with the Eastern bloc under Soviet influence and the Western bloc under American influence. Its fall on November 9, 1989 marked a historic milestone that many still remember. However, the tensions and challenges it represented did not disappear with its collapse.
The Berlin Wall exhibition in Madrid invites you to reflect on this chapter of modern history as you explore authentic pieces of the Wall and discover personal stories of those who lived through the division. More than 300 original objects show the real impact it had on people on both sides of the wall.
The exhibition includes more than 20 meters of the original wall, personal belongings, spy instruments and much more. Many of these objects are being exhibited to the public for the first time. More than a third come directly from the archives of the Berlin Wall Foundation, although 20 other museums and international institutions have contributed part of their collections for this unique exhibition.
